Celebrating the Rich Traditions, Art & History of the AANHPI Communities

LAS VEGAS (May 8, 2026) –This May, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District invites the community to celebrate the diverse cultures and profound contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. Throughout the month, customers can explore this vibrant heritage through immersive dance performances, historical lectures, wellness workshops and contemporary musical showcases across the Library District’s 25 unique branches. 

Below is a partial list of events and activities planned for AANHPI Heritage Month. All events are free and open to the public. Seating at some events may be limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Events subject to cancellation without notice.   • “Like Friends, Like Foes: Japanese Nevadans During WWII” – Author Visit & Book Signing (Teens – Adults) – Andrew B. Russell will discuss his book, which covers the struggle of Japanese Americans in the Silver State.
  • Asian Community Development Council (ACDC) Information Session (Adults) – Learn about vital community resources including culturally sensitive food banks, health care clinics and SNAP assistance.  
  • Learn Tai Chi and Qigong: Discover the Art of Moving Meditation (Adults) – Cultivate balance and inner peace through ancient healing arts set to gentle music.  
  • Past Self in Concert: Darkwave, Shoegaze, K-Goth (Teens – Adults – Seniors) – Attendees will immerse themselves in Past Self’s signature K-Goth sound, which blends Korean and English lyrics with darkwave melodies.  
  • Isamu Noguchi Lanterns (Toddlers – Preschoolers) – A playful story time and craft session inspired by the magic of light and the designs of Japanese American artist Isamu Noguchi.  
  • Teen Thursday: Flower Bookmark (Teens) – Creative young minds can craft their own unique lotus flower bookmark.  
  • Spotlight Poetry Presents: Asian American Pacific Islander Poetry Showcase (Adults) – A showcase featuring poets from across the AANHPI community exploring themes of heritage, migration, and belonging.  
  • Learn Korean with a Native Speaker! (Kids – Tweens – Teens – Adults) – Love K-Dramas and K-Pop? Learn to speak Korean with a native speaker in a stress-free environment.  
  • Madama Butterfly: The Opera in Concert (Adults) – The International Opera Institute presents Puccini’s legendary opera, featuring world-class voices from the Metropolitan and Los Angeles Operas.

Through our Free to Be mission, we invite everyone to engage with these incredible legacies, whether through live events at our branches or by exploring our curated collections of books, music and films that you can borrow, download or stream for FREE with your library card.”
