FEES

Passport applications at the Library District require two separate fees:

  • U.S. Department of State fee:
    • This fee is paid directly to the U.S. Department of State by personal check, cashier's check, company check, traveler's check, certified check, money order, or foreign check in U.S. currency through a U.S. bank.
    • It is important to pay the correct amount. Incorrect fee amounts may cause significant delays in processing your application.
    • Federal fees can vary — click here to determine the cost or ask your librarian.
  • Library District – Passport Execution fee:
    • This fee is paid directly to the Library District by debit or credit card (Visa or MasterCard), cash, check, or money order made payable to Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. If paying cash, no bill larger than $20 can be accepted.
    • There is a one-time Execution fee of $35 for each passport application.
    • If a photo is needed, there is a separate $12 Photo fee, payable to the library.

AVOID PASSPORT SCAMS

Scam websites often appear in online searches and may look official, but they can charge unnecessary fees or steal your personal information. To protect yourself, always use the U.S. Department of State's official webpage for passport services: https://travel.state.gov, opens a new window.

Here's how to spot and avoid common passport scams:

  • Check the Website Address
    • Official U.S. government websites always end in .gov. Be cautious of sites with similar names that end in .com, .org, or .us, even if they look official.
  • Passport Forms Are Free
    • Passport application and renewal forms are available at no cost on the State Department’s website. You should never pay a separate fee just to access forms.
  • Appointments Are Free
    • Booking a passport appointment through the U.S. Department of State or an authorized acceptance facility, such as post offices or libraries, is free. Scammers may charge to “reserve” appointments, but this does not provide any advantage.
  • Be Cautious of Unexpected Messages
    • Government agencies do not contact people by phone, text, or email demanding immediate payment or personal information. Ignore unsolicited messages claiming your passport is at risk or linked to criminal activity.
  • Be Wary of “Guaranteed” Fast Processing
    • Only the U.S. Department of State issues passports and controls processing times. While official expedited services exist for an additional fee, no third party can guarantee faster or special treatment.
  • Use Safe Payment Methods
    • The State Department only accepts approved payment methods and will never request payment using gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
