Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation receives $200,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation

July 9, 2026 – The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation (Library Foundation) has received a $200,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation, the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises, parent company of Cox Communications, and named after the company’s founder.

The grant supports the development of a Creation Lab at the West Las Vegas Library (1861 N. Martin Luther Blvd.), just north of Cox’s Las Vegas headquarters at 1700 Vegas Drive. The lab will feature technology and programming to encourage creativity and support a variety of learning opportunities to build foundational workforce skills and provide additional connectivity for West Las Vegas residents who lack internet access.

Representatives from the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, Library Foundation and Cox Las Vegas will join invited elected leaders for a ceremonial check presentation at the June meeting of The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Board of Trustees.

  • Thursday, July 9 at 5 p.m.
  • Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89119
  • All regular meetings are open to the public and streamed live on the Library District You Tube Channel

“We are incredibly grateful to our partners at Cox Las Vegas and the James M. Cox Foundation for this generous investment in the future of early literacy and job skills training at the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District,” said Kelvin Watson, executive director of the Library District. “This grant will help to build foundations of learning for years to come."

The Library District intends to utilize the grant in four areas:

  • The EcoStitch Sustainable Fashion and Apparel Trades Program that will provide supplies and equipment for free six-week classes covering sewing, alterations, upcycling and basic apparel construction
  • Software enhancement to the library’s One-Button Studio, a free resource enabling customers to engage in podcasting while learning about sound editing and media production
  • Addition of the West Las Vegas Educational Gaming Club with technology to explore skills such as game development and to provide additional connectivity for library customers
  • Creation of 5,000 take-home, early-learning Curiosity Kits, which include a professionally curated selection of books, materials, and activities tailored for children five and under designed to help families explore STEM concepts.

“At Cox, we empower our employees and communities to build a better future for the next generation, and with this gift from the James M. Cox Foundation, plans for programming that promotes economic empowerment and skill-building opportunities can move forward at the new West Las Vegas Library,” said Janet Uthman, Cox’s Las Vegas Market Vice President.
