Left of Center Gallery: Blanket of Protection

Blanket of Protection is an exhibition recognizing and honoring the men and women who fought to protect our country during World War II amidst the racism that they experienced and in spite of it. A group of Left of Center Gallery artists have come together to portray their own rendition of this important part of history. Through their paintings and writing, they share the emotions these individuals surely experienced as they gave of themselves to preserve the freedoms they perhaps would never fully experience.

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black military pilots in the U.S. Army Air Corps.  Flying missions throughout Europe and North Africa, they risked their lives to fight for a country engulfed in hatred against their race. Yet these brave men and women found something stronger inside themselves and became the heroes and heroines of their time.

This exhibit is a tribute to them.

The vision of Director Vicki Richardson, Left of Center Art Gallery is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in North Las Vegas with a focus on diversity; seeking to make the arts accessible to all segments of our population.

With artwork showing a diversity of style and media, LOC is administered and supported by artists and educators who are committed to advancing the arts and providing a setting for cultural exchange. LOC offers a wide spectrum of art experiences and events that reflect the diversity of the local community while also providing opportunities for artists from all over the country to share their work. Their goal is to make art more accessible to the surrounding neighborhoods by taking art to sites where it can enhance, educate, and bring a sense of local pride.

LOC is committed to encouraging art in public places and creating venues where the public can observe the steps of the creative process and encourage dialogue with individual artists. We represent an ethnically diverse group of members and resident artists. LOC holds the belief that the visual arts can serve as an education tool to help teach respect and understanding for all cultures.
