Ron Harris III: A Room Full of Mirrors

A Room Full of Mirrors is the first solo exhibition for Ron Harris III. The exhibit consists of monochromatic acrylic paintings, each piece themed after 1 of the 7 human expressions (anger, contempt, fear, disgust, happiness, sadness, and surprise), in a cinematic sequence depicting the life and eventual death of the artist. This series of work is meant to question who we really are when no one's watching, and what we become when we are surrounded by only ourselves. The late Jimi Hendrix sang “I used to live in a room full of mirrors, All I could see was me. Well, I take my spirit and I smash my mirrors. Now the whole world is here for me to see.”

Artist Statement

I am a multimedia artist who focuses on painting and photography. I have chosen to create pieces of art that reflect my view of myself, the world around me, and personal opinions. I connect with the idea that we as artists are all lost in some sort of way, or as Christopher Tsouras said: “damaged, biased, and broken.” And that is what is reflected in my images. My work are pieces of puzzles made through my own and others memories that are looking to be put together.

I specialize currently in black & white paintings on large canvases that focus on subject matters such as the human form, my own view of myself, how I feel on a day to day basis, the environments that I live in, and how my perception of the world around me changes with age. My work as of recent comes from a place of self reflection and self realization as I approach my 25th year of life.

Seeing other people react to things I create is what I live for, whether it is loved or hated. My only goal is to create art that will be remembered and will live on longer than I ever will. --Ron Harris III, 2022
