For the Love of Spring by Las Vegas Artists’ Guild

For the Love of Spring is an inaugural juried exhibition presented by the Las Vegas Artists’ Guild (LVAG). The artwork, representing a wide variety of mediums and styles, was selected for exhibition by jurors Angela Brommel, Jeff Fulmer, and Clarice Tara. Winners were then decided by the judge Bobbie Ann Howell.

About the jurors:

Angela Brommel is the Director of Arts, Culture and Advancement, as well as a part-time Humanities faculty member, at Nevada State College. Currently she serves on the City of Henderson's Commission on Tourism as well as the new advisory committee on the arts.

Jeff Fulmer is an artist, educator, and arts administrator. He earned his MFA degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his BA degree from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Jeff coordinates all College of Southern Nevada art gallery activities in addition to fulfilling other college, school, department and program responsibilities. He has served as a Faculty Senator, Administrative Faculty Assembly Representative, AFA Chair, Safe Zone Ally, and on many program, department, school, CSN and NSHE committees. Jeff is currently Administrative Faculty Assembly Chair-Elect.

Clarice Tara is an artist whose work explores the relationships of femininity and the female form. She engages with a diversity of concepts and mediums. Ranging from hyper-realistic graphite drawings to performance, sculpture, and photography, she discusses her personal experiences with womanhood. Tara’s intention is to open a dialogue within the mind of the viewers through the language of shape and shade. She currently lives and works in Las Vegas, Nevada while attending UNLV for her BFA in Sculpture and Drawing/Painting.

About the judge:

Bobbie Ann Howell grew up in beautiful Lee Canyon, Nevada, a mountain community northwest of the Las Vegas valley. Born in a state that has dramatic contrasts, from the desert valleys to high mountain vistas, and from crowed urban centers to the open windswept spaces; each having long been a part of her life and, in turn, her art. She holds a BFA from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, and she received her MFA in Sculpture and Drawing from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL. Howell has previously taught a wide variety of courses as a member of the fine arts faculty at Steven F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas, UNLV, and CSN. She continues to teach workshops and classes from her studio, B.E.S.T. Arts 4 U. Her works are held in public and private collections, and she presents in solo and group exhibitions throughout the country. In 2017 she was included in the ArtPop Street Gallery, where one of her artworks was displayed on a billboard along Interstate 15 in Las Vegas, and she was recently awarded the 2018 Nevada Arts Council Visual Art Fellowship.
