“As summer approaches, families across the Las Vegas Valley are looking for engaging, meaningful ways to stay connected to learning,” said Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Executive Director Kelvin Watson. “Summer Challenge is our biggest event of the year, bringing together readers of all ages, encouraging a love of reading, and showing kids and teens that learning can be fun! The ultimate goal of Summer Challenge is to prevent ‘summer slide,’ where reading levels can decrease dramatically in those summer months.”

He added that the program is equally engaging for adults seeking both enrichment and entertainment. “Adults can read for pleasure, discover new interests, and explore a wide range of materials available through the library,” Watson said. “From books and magazines to digital resources, even audiobooks, there is truly something for everyone. Every hour of reading helps participants work toward rewards made possible through our generous community partners, whom we thank sincerely for supporting literacy across the Las Vegas Valley.”

2026 Summer Challenge community partners include: Vegas PBS, Vegas Golden Knights, Nevada Arts Council, Lee Canyon, Las Vegas Raiders, University of Nevada Reno Extension, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Freed’s Bakery, Cowabunga Bay, Pizza Hut, Three Square Food Bank, The Smith Center, and Wing Stop.
