LAS VEGAS – For lovers of packaged entertainment in all forms, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation’s Big Summer Book Sale is not to be missed. One of the best sales of the summer, this is your chance to stock up on summer reading, movies, music, and those unexpected treasures you might find in the stacks.
The sale will be held on July 5 and July 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and on July 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sahara West Library located at 9600 West Sahara Avenue.
Books and materials are divided up into categories as follows: cookbooks, health, history, textbooks, autobiography, sports, travel, law, computer, art, music, self-help, diet, science, fiction, non-fiction, romance, teens and kids’ books, as well as DVDs, CDs, and LPs.
“We receive thousands of wonderful donations from the community,” Keiba Crear, president of the Library District Foundation, said. “This includes donations from people who are downsizing to smaller homes, estate book collections, public agencies such as consulates, and a local doctor who drops off beautiful new tabletop art books every month. We have a number of book sales throughout the year but our summer sale is by far our largest.”
Members of the public are sure to find amazing treasures and bargains galore on books, DVDs, CDs, LPs, and more, with some items discounted as low as 50 cents. All proceeds and donations go to fund new resources and priority projects for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Foundation, such as Teacher Tutors, Teen Tech Labs, and the new Nevada CareerExplorer.
According to Dr. Ronald R. Heezen, executive director of the Library District, the sale has long been a favorite of book collectors.
“You never know when a first edition, special collection, or signed author’s copy may pop up unexpectedly,” Dr. Heezen said. “Last year, one lucky customer discovered a signed copy of ‘Fortunately, The Milk’ by Neil Gaiman an award-winning British author. Gaiman is noteworthy as he is the first author to win both the Newberry Medal and the Carnegie Medal for the same work. The customer gasped when she found it and everyone around her said she had won the lottery!”
The Library District Foundation sponsors several other book sales during the year, including:
• The Teacher’s Book Sale on Saturday, August 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Clark County Library, where teachers receive deep discounts in order to stock their shelves for the coming school year.
• Centennial Hills Library Book Sale August 24 and 25 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., which is another giant public sale organized by over 20 library volunteers.
• Sahara West Winter Sale on December 6, 7, and 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for the book DVDs, CDs, and LPs lovers on your gift list!
