The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District continues to lead the way in STEAM learning across the valley. The importance of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) cannot be overstated.
The Library District has become a national leader in developing STEAM learning environments at multiple library branches. With the opening of the Cox Teen STEAM Lab in January, made possible by a $25,000 grant from Cox Charities to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation, the Library District continues this role full STEAM ahead!
Housed at the Enterprise Library, 8310 S. Las Vegas Blvd., the Cox Teen STEAM Lab offers free access to technology equipment and STEAM education programming with the goal of preparing local youth to be successful in the high-tech economy.
“The Cox Teen STEAM Lab gives local youth free access to technologies as diverse as music-making, fashion design, drone construction, artificial intelligence, coding, robotics, and engineering projects that cross many areas of scientific expertise,” said Keiba Crear, president of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation Board. “This lab provides youth a step forward in building skills, experiences, and portfolios that will put them on a path to employment and high-paying careers.”
“Cox Communications has long been committed to engaging youth in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through strategic partnerships with organizations including the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation,” said Michael F. Bolognini, vice president and market leader of Cox Las Vegas. “We value opportunities to use technology to connect people of all ages to things that matter most to them.”
Available seven days a week, Cox’s Teen STEAM Lab serves as a youth development model with opportunities to engage in problem-solving, team building, peer learning, and service innovation thinking. The lab offers free instruction and access to all technologies, including music software, keyboards and synthesizers, 3D and large format printing, graphic design, fashion design, photography, video and video game making, circuitry, and robotics equipment.
