Abstract works that capture my interpretation of the desert’s quiet strength, expansive spaces, open skies, winds, and sunlight as depicted through the use of broad strokes and color. These works utilize acrylics, inks, and graphite on high-quality watercolor papers.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
Rita’s art is primarily driven by an expressionistic perspective, aiming to evoke a specific impression based on her emotions or observations of the natural world. She seeks a harmonious balance between spontaneity and intentionality, striving for a degree of creative control. Her works often capture the fleeting or ephemeral rather than the literal, inspiring her to create a diverse range of pieces. From abstract compositions exclusively using graphite, pastels, and acrylics on canvas, to occasional ink studies, her artistic exploration encompasses various mediums.
In recent times, Rita’s focus has shifted towards the disintegration of form through the interplay of color and brushstroke. She delves into the rhythmic combinations of color, embracing the inherent uncertainty of achieving a definitive resolution. This willingness to embrace risk and acknowledge the potential for ambiguity keeps her artistic process engaging and rewarding. Each approach offers a unique lesson, teaching her to find value and enjoyment in the journey itself rather than fixating on a predetermined outcome.
Through her art, Rita aims to convey a “sense” of her interests in each new piece, inviting viewers to embark on their own unique interpretations and adventures.
