Sights, Dreams, and Memories: Works on Paper by M. S. Miller is a visual meditation on beauty, transformation, and resilience. Gathering fifteen evocative works on paper by Summerlin-based artist M. S. Miller, this exhibit moves seamlessly between the observed world and the symbolic image, framing contemporary realism with an unforgettable emotional charge.
Rather than simple documentation, each piece serves as a threshold into a shared human story. The exhibition is structured around three movements:
- Sights: Works rooted in desert light, local landscapes, and vibrant flora, where pure observation becomes deep reverence.
- Dreams: Intimate, mythic, and imaginative works that translate experience into transformation through elements of water, fire, and ritual action.
- Memories: Striking images of childhood, discovery, and remembered experience, where quiet, intimate moments gather a universal meaning.
By weaving together local desert terrain with personal connection and ancient myth, Miller invites the Las Vegas community to explore the Windmill Library gallery as a space for quiet contemplation, shared humanity, and enduring resilience.
Artist Statement -- My work lives at the intersection of memory, myth, and lived experience. I employ mixed media, including oil pastel, watercolor pencil, watercolor, and gouache to build richly layered pieces that capture the complexity of human emotion—joy and sorrow, resilience and fragility, silence and revelation. Originally from New York and now based in Summerlin, Las Vegas, I’ve lived in nine U.S. states. This perspective shapes my visual language—rooted in Southwest light and color, but reaching toward something more universal. My artistic motivation is to reveal beauty that exists alongside injustice, and to remind viewers that perseverance and transcendence are always possible.
