Artist Statement
I grew up in Virginia and my family and I would spend every summer in Virginia Beach. We left Virginia in 1998, but my father and I have continued our summer tradition almost every year since. I love to create art that shows a special place that I have traveled to with a loved one. Time goes by so fast, so I think making this art helps me hold onto my happy memories. My dad and I also love to trade photos we take of sunrises or sunsets, and it is wonderful to have someone that has such enthusiasm for the beauty of nature to share with. I have painted two of his sunrise/sunset photos that he has sent me. I like to paint big vast open skies and oceans that seem to represent a world of endless possibilities.
As a kid in Virginia, I spent a lot of time by myself walking around the woods. I was never afraid there; I felt safe and at home. I love the scent of the damp soil and decomposing leaves. The way the golden sunlight comes through the trees is one of my favorite things in the world, so, of course, I love to draw and paint it. I love bright juicy green leaves, as well as the reds and golds that autumn brings. I just love painting all kinds of trees!
I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2021, and several of the works I am displaying were created while earning my Bachelor of Arts degree. I am grateful for the inspiration my professors gave me, and also the freedom they allowed me, so I could create what was in my heart.
