The Library District is excited to offer self-service 3D printing! We are committed to providing our customers with access to new technologies and guiding them through the process from design to finished print. Our DIY 3D printers can be reserved free of charge at 10 of our library branches with a valid library card in good standing. Seven other branches provide staff-managed 3D printing. Prior to using our 3D Printing Zones for the first time, customers must undergo training with verified library staff to ensure the safe use of the equipment and have the opportunity to ask questions about the 3D printing process.
How to Get Started:
Create
Design a 3D object using Tinkercad or create an account on a 3D modeling site like Printables.com to download pre-made 3D models. Customers may also subscribe to professional creators on sites such as Patreon.com to purchase printable 3D models.
Reserve
Reservations can be made online through our PC Reservation system. Select one of our locations from the drop-down menu, then fill out the form and select “3D Printing Zone” in the “Select Area” drop-down menu and the time you would like to reserve a 3D printing station. Customers may contact library branch staff directly for additional assistance with reservations.
Make
Prior to the first reservation, customers will be trained by library staff to use the equipment. Once training is completed, customer can begin their project. Print designs must be approved by staff. Please see our printing guidelines below for more information on procedures and what types of projects we can print.
Project Printing Guidelines:

- Prior to using 3D Printing Zones, customers will undergo training administered and verified by the library. Dates, times, and methods of customer training are decided at each library branch’s discretion.
- Upon successfully completing training, library branch staff will add a qualification code to the customer’s library card to qualify them to use the system.
- 3D printing is available to all trained customers age 10 and older.
- Children under the age of 10 are not allowed to operate the 3D printers.
- Vulnerable persons will require caregiver supervision while using 3D printers.
- Prints must be completed during library operating hours under the guidance of a trained staff member or volunteer. For safety reasons, prints may not be scheduled to run overnight or during closed library hours.
- Staff and trained volunteers will not design or program on behalf of customers but are encouraged to monitor all customer prints during the customer’s session and cannot guarantee model quality or stability, confidentiality of designs, physical security of printed objects, or specific delivery times.
