The Library District has teamed up with the City of Las Vegas to offer its Vegas Strong Academies at the Windmill, East Las Vegas, West Las Vegas, and Clark County Libraries. Vegas Strong Academies are open Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for children in grades Kindergarten through eighth. The program provides the Las Vegas community a safe, caring childcare option, with academic and technical support for distance learning. The Library District Foundation is proud to be supporting the academies by providing laptops, headsets, and WiFi hotspots to ensure that all students can be successful in online learning.
Each Vegas Strong Academy library site also includes extracurricular academic, artistic and recreational programming. Thanks to funding from the NV Energy Foundation and Union Pacific, the Foundation has been able to offer Engineering for Kids classes to students at the academies. These hands-on learning experiences provide science, technology, engineering, and math enrichment that’s engaging and fun. The EFK curriculum spans disciplines, with projects related to aeronautic, computer, civil, mechanical, electrical, marine, chemical engineering, game design, and robotics.
