National Library Week , opens a new window(April 4 - 10, 2021) is a time to celebrate our nation's libraries, the countless contributions of library workers' to the diverse communities they serve, and of course, promote more library use and public support. Introduced in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate in this annual celebration of literacy.
Whether you visit one of our 25 conveniently located branches in person or virtually, the library can help you access the free resources and services that will help you to achieve your dreams. Libraries have been adapting to our changing world by expanding the resources and services they provide to better serve the rapidly evolving needs of the local residents they serve. Through access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programs, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves. National Library Week is also the perfect time to explore our website where you can find access to downloadable and streaming books, movies, and music as well as online resources to help you with distance learning, research, and employment assistance.
Natalie Portman, Academy Award-winning actress, director, producer, author, and activist is the honorary chair of National Library Week 2021. A lifelong fan of books, Portman is an avid reader and often shares what she is reading on her Instagram feed, as part of Natalie Portman's Book Club, using the hashtag #WhatNatReads. Born in Jerusalem, Israel, she is a graduate of Harvard University and just recently released her debut picture book - “Natalie Portman’s Fables.”

Celebrate National Library Week 2021 by sharing what you love about the resources and services available at your library! Post to Instagram, Twitter, or on the I Love Libraries Facebook page, about an eBook, audiobook, storytime, or how your library has made a difference while you've been social distancing at home. Use the hashtag #MyLibraryIs. ALA will gather all the entries, and one randomly selected winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card. The promotion starts Sunday, April 4 at noon CT and ends on Saturday, April 10 at noon CT. Don’t forget to tag us @LVCCLD as well!
