Jamie Kovacs is a passionate collage and mixed media artist, originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has long held a fascination with keys, admiring their physical beauty and functionality, but she also imagines them as a tool to unlocking and viewing an individual’s soul. The artwork in this exhibit incorporates this idea of visualizing the uniqueness of each person’s soul, and that souls can change depending on the paths we choose in life.
This series marks a new direction for Kovacs into mixed media as the vehicle for her continued explorations of movement, composition, and the flow of energy through philosophical and psychological ideals. The twelve artworks on view bear the artist’s characteristic flowing ideas created with a variety of items such as paper, paint, glue, found objects, keys, and mirrors. In The Keys to Your Soul, Kovacs has incorporated the use of mirrors so that viewers can see themselves in the works, both physically and metaphorically. She hopes viewers will find the hidden keys, imagine their own souls, and ponder the possibility of developing the soul they hope to achieve.
