Greetings:
In celebration of National Library Card Sign-Up Month, I had the pleasure of speaking with the Las Vegas Review-Journal at the East Las Vegas Library. The topic was "libraries of the future" and the many fascinating, fun, and insightful experiences that we offer. For example, most people don't know that you can take DJ lessons on state-of-the-art equipment, or host your own podcast, or professionally record and edit your own music, all at the library! I hope you will check out the article on our website's media coverage page, HERE.
Libraries have been creating an evolution/revolution of our services for years as we work to address the digital divide that exists in many of our neighborhoods. Toward this goal, we will continue to expand our programs and facilities to even further meet the 21st Century needs of our diverse communities. I invite you to learn more about the Library District's future in our new Playbook 2026 Strategic Plan, which you can read HERE. It outlines the continued growth of technology, infrastructure upgrades, and exciting programs that you can expect to see over the next five years.
“We didn’t change. More people just became aware of what the library can and could offer.” ~ Kelvin Watson
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and if you are reading this, you may be a library cardholder who already knows the power of a FREE library card. Please feel free to share my latest blog with your family, friends, and neighbors, so that they can about that power, too.
I personally encourage our communities to take the Library District's #GetCarded Challenge and sign up for an Instant eCard, which gives you immediate access to thousands of our online books, movies, music, and so much more. Or pick up a traditional library card, which adds the option to check out items from a library branch. Sign up for a traditional card by visiting any of our 25 library locations, bring a photo ID and proof of address, and choose one of our six designs, which include the official Vegas Golden Knights and Las Vegas Lights FC library cards.
Once you have your library card number, you can enter for a chance to win one of our popular #GetCarded T-shirts...and if you already are a library cardholder, you can enter too! Just visit our giveaway entry page HERE to fill in your card number for a chance to win.
Sign up today and I hope to see you soon at the library!
Sincerely,
Kelvin Watson
