Cheng Yajie: Symphonic

.

Cheng Yajie’s art has developed from a wide variety of international influences and experiences garnered throughout the artist’s career. His drawings and paintings reflect the early influence of Social Realism from his studies in China during the 1980’s, and the dreamlike qualities and symbolism of Fantastic Realism learned while in graduate school in Austria. The culminating style of the artist is deeply personal and speaks beyond the limits of cultural boundaries.

The artist earned a bachelor’s degree from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1985. He went on to study art in several other countries, including Japan and the USSR. His outstanding artistic achievements won him the appreciation of Wolfgang Hutter, artist and founding member of the Viennese School of Fantastic Realists. Hutter granted Cheng special admission to his graduate classes at the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna, where he graduated with a master’s degree in 1994. Cheng’s art has been collected and exhibited by museums and galleries around the world, most notably at the Opera Gallery, New York; Korea International Art Exposition, Seoul, South Korea; Singapore Art Museum, Singapore; and Today Art Museum, Beijing, China.
