LAS VEGAS – If you enter a branch of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District starting May 1, you may think the UK’s Prince Harry and his American fiancée’ Meghan Markle have popped over to Las Vegas for a little pre-wedding fun at the library!
In celebration of two important events -- the royal wedding and the launch of the Library District’s dynamic new website -- the District is unveiling the royal preview of “All Things British,” a special spotlight on the library’s vast (and always free) collection of British books, eBooks, movies, music, and more. So in case your invitation to the royal wedding hasn’t arrived yet, the library’s “All Things British” event has you covered. You can still get that photo opp with Harry & Meghan simply by stepping inside any of the Library District’s 25 branches, where you will find a striking likeness of the royal couple, just waiting to greet you and take a selfie!
The royal preview of the new Library District website takes place from May 1 through June 18, 2018. During this preview period, the Library District has two action items needed from the public:
• To enjoy additional benefits on the new site, customers are invited to register their library card number HERE. This will enable them to renew items, place holds, track their borrowing history, manage their account, and more.
• The public is also encouraged to share their feedback with the Library District about the the new website. Comments and suggestions may be emailed to feedback@thelibrarydistrict.org.
“People might be surprised to learn that there is a huge contingent of British fans in Southern Nevada,” said Dr. Ron Heezen, executive director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. “Our collection of Brit Lit, movies, and music is always in high demand but this is our first time spotlighting it on our website. Our new site allows us to focus on themed content to make it easy for our library customers to discover new things. And what better occasion than the royal wedding to debut ‘All Things British’?”
The Library District’s “All Things British” web page includes such categories as: Everything Queen Elizabeth, Harry’s Favorite Comic Books, Best British TV Shows, Cool British History for Kids, Music from UK Classic Rock Royalty, A Tribute to Princess Diana, Top British Chefs, Brit Lit for Your Beach Bag, and so much more!
According to Dr. Heezen, library customers of all ages will want to dive into with this visually engaging new site, which features enhanced search capabilities; thousands of highlighted items, downloadable eResources, classes, programs, events, and live entertainment; weekly polls, trivia, and recommended reads from library staff; and content as welcoming and surprising as entering a library’s front door!
