Mind, Matter and the Digital Divine brings together the full spectrum of Susan Squarey’s artistic practice, uniting her tactile acrylic paintings with a selection of her computer‑generated works that explore spirituality woven into everyday life.
The acrylic portion of the exhibit includes pieces created on traditional canvas as well as five works painted on uniquely cut MDF shapes. These sculptural forms carry rich texture and depth, incorporating acrylic paint, mixed papers, and fabric. Rooted in the principles of neurologic art, the paintings feature flowing lines, organic forms, and intuitive compositions. The MDF works, in particular, are intended to be vibrant, expressive and sculptural.
Balancing this tactile energy is the digital side of the exhibition. These computer‑generated pieces delve into themes of spirituality, presence, and the unseen patterns that shape daily life. Ethereal and contemplative, they’re intended to provide a counterpoint to the abstract physicality of the acrylic works—creating a dialogue between the material and the immaterial, the intuitive and the analytical, the grounded and the transcendent.
Together, the two bodies of work form an immersive experience that reflects Susan’s ongoing exploration of how mind, matter, and the digital realm intersect to shape human meaning.
Artist bio:
Susan Squarey grew up amid the rugged beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, a place where weather, landscape, and story are woven into daily life. Long before she ever touched a paintbrush, she learned to see the world with a storyteller’s sensitivity—attuned to subtle emotion, quiet detail, and the deeper meanings that shape human experience.
Her early professional life as a journalist, writer, and researcher sharpened that instinct. Through years of listening, interviewing, and interpreting the world through language, Susan developed a keen awareness of the narratives people carry within them. That training—part observation, part empathy, part curiosity—became the foundation of her artistic voice.
Over time, her search for new ways to explore meaning led her toward the visual arts. Now based in Las Vegas, Susan works across a wide and continually evolving range of mediums, including acrylic painting, sculpture, collage, and computer‑generated art. Moving fluidly between tactile materials and digital tools, she creates works that blend autobiographical reflection with abstract expression, inviting viewers into a space where memory, intuition, and imagination intersect.
In recent years, Susan’s practice has been profoundly influenced by the principles of neurographic art, developed by Pavel Piskarev. This therapeutic drawing method—rooted in flowing lines, organic forms, and intuitive mark‑making—has opened new creative pathways for her. It encourages her to embrace spontaneity, trust the subconscious, and welcome the unexpected beauty that emerges when control gives way to exploration.
Susan’s work has appeared in galleries and exhibitions throughout the American Southwest, where she has become a proud and active member of the contemporary art community. Her evolving body of work continues to reflect her lifelong fascination with how humans think, feel, and make meaning—and her belief that art is one of the most powerful ways we learn to understand ourselves and one another.
