Artist Statement
I was born as a refugee in Kenya and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, where my love for art began at an early age. I graduated from the College of Southern Nevada with an Associate of Arts degree, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of participating in many group exhibitions. In 2023, I exhibited my first solo show, The Sun is Always Shining, becoming the first African-American, Somali artist to present a solo exhibition at the Pearson Community Center. In 2024, I brought the show to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District at Centennial Hills Library Art Gallery. As a multidisciplinary artist, I work across acrylic, watercolor, and oil paint. My current body of work explores themes of self-reflection, heroism, and overcoming adversity through faith.
