Paula Darnell: Floral Fibrations

Floral Fibrations brings together three distinct yet interconnected series by fiber artist Paula Darnell, each celebrating the expressive potential of natural fibers and the enduring allure of botanical forms. Across wool, silk, and traditional Harris Tweed, Darnell transforms humble materials into vibrant floral compositions that blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and textile art.

The Fanciful Fiber series features small floral compositions “painted with wool,” created through meticulous needle‑felting.

The works from the Garden Whimsy series highlight the luminosity of silk fiber, fused in layered strokes onto canvas to form playful, whimsical blooms.

Clò Mòr is a series that pairs wool and fabric flowers with authentic Harris Tweed sourced from a traditional weaver in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, honoring the heritage of this storied cloth.

Across all three series, Darnell preserves the fleeting beauty of flowers through texture, color, and the unique character of natural fibers.
